Speechly Bircham is a law firm based in the centre of London, UK. Spacecraft provided Knoll’s newest range of desks; WA to the lawyers at Speechly Bircham. This was designed by Lissoni and launched in 2007. The finishes are limited to a palette of muted colours along with strong accent accessories. An architect’s favourite way of injecting colour to the standard office grey landscape. Knoll and B&B Italia combined to create an aesthetically pleasing office of desks and soft furnishings.

Another successful project with MCM and Overbury for 400 staff close to Holborn, London.

Residential interiors project in Eaton Mansions, off Sloane Square, Chelsea, London.

Spacecraft worked very closely with Julia from JH Architects to achieve a stunning show apartment in the heart of Chelsea. The straight lines of the Victorian conversion lent itself to the curve of the Eames and Saarinen womb chairs. The Barcelona chair and Florence Knoll worked well together as a seating area over an appropriately placed warm, cosy rug.

…to add the Wow! factor to any living or work space.
The unmistakable silhouette of the Egg Chair, with its matching footstool, sits well in any
environment, adding an informed focal point to a contemporary backdrop, or injecting
personality into a more traditionally-themed room.
It was created by that Danish master Arne Jacobsen in 1958, and today the chair is
recognised worldwide as epitomising 20th century design.
Despite its rather upright appearance, the Egg is very comfortable, thanks to its low-slung
seat. It certainly is a unique chair, and the craftsmanship and quality of an original really
is awe-inspiring. And, available in a plethora of upholstery options, you’ll find making
your choice a tough, but worthwhile, decision.

…To make a magnificent style statement.

Although this piece wasn’t part of Mies van der Rohe’s design for the World Arts Fair back in 1929, it does feature that unmistakable square panelled Italian leather upholstery, which makes such an instant impact.

The Barcelona day bed was, in fact, designed for the New York apartment of Philip Johnson, first director of the Museum of Modern Art, and it has gone on to grace some of the most stylish interiors in the world ever since.

As ever, the delight is in the detail:  each piece of the leather upholstery is perfectly welded together by hand; the frame itself is hand buffed. This all adds up to a beautiful, sophisticated piece of craftsmanship; a priceless centrepiece for any home or office.

Knoll Barcelona Day Bed

…It’s the perfect, elegant dining or meeting chair.
Another classic design from Mies van der Rohe, this chair looks to almost defy gravity, with its leather upholstered cushion floating between a fluidly bent tubular steel frame. Designed in the Thirties, it looks just as contemporary as it did back then. And it’s built to last: the padded seat is upholstered in supple full grain Spinneybeck leather, which retains its smooth, strong appearance, while the frame has been treated with a lengthy triple-plate chroming process to create a rust-free mirror quality finish. A heritage chair that works in any environment.

…It’s a true piece of design history.

Frequently used in the movies and advertisements, nothing says timeless style more than this one piece of furniture.
Hardly surprising, then, that it was originally designed for Royalty. Its creator, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was an architect progressing into the world of furniture. When he was commissioned to design the German Pavilion as part of the World Arts Fair in Barcelona in 1929, he didn’t just plan the bricks and mortar. He also turned his attention to the furniture within it, and his design – a simple, streamlined shape holding luxuriously upholstered cushions – served as thrones for the visiting King and Queen of Spain.
Mies produced a re-design of the aptly-named Barcelona chair in 1950, so as to make use of the newly-available commodity stainless steel which allowed the frame to be made of one fluid piece of metal.
Today, the Barcelona is one of the most instantly-recognised iconic chairs in the world. So magnificent, it is as much a piece of sculpture as a functional piece of furniture. Spacecraft offer a huge selection of upholstery options. And as with all pieces in the Mies van der Rohe collection, the only authentic designs are produced through KnollStudio – you’ll find the company logo and designer’s signature stamped on the frame. Accept no imitations!

Spacecraft is proud to be involved in the development of one of London’s latest design landmarks, the Angel Building in St John Street, Islington.

This outstanding piece of modern architecture was designed by award-winning architects AHMM for Derwent London, a real estate investment company with an eye for future growth locations. The result is a breathtaking 260,000sqft of office space across six floors, rejuvenating this part of the capital. For the focal point of the building, the atrium, Spacecraft has supplied a striking selection of chairs, tables and benches by Carl Hansen, as well as B&B sofas, to provide an impressive area for meeting-and-greeting as well as doing business. In the 5th floor marketing suite, we have maximised the sense of light and space with Vitra workstations, combining a clean white backdrop with colour accents. And we are delighted to have just been appointed furniture supplier for NG Bailey, who will be taking residence on the 3rd floor.

NG Bailey’s move to the famous Angel Building was an important one as it will be their flagship office. The space needed to be modern and representative of the company whilst maintaining functionality. The space brought together a number of offices to unite the company under one roof. Lead time was critical with a incredibly tight lead time to ensure that NG Bailey could occupy before their various other leases finished.

Kleinwort Benson’s merger acquisition with RHJI was the dominating factor in the move of their HQ to the prestigious W1 postcode. Coupled with the premises grade II listing this project dealt its fair share of challenges.
